• If this activity remains confined to a small area of
  brain, the result is a focal seizure. During this
  type of seizure, a patient remains conscious and
  may experience a strange sensation, such as a
  smell or taste, or have a brief episode of
  uncharacteristic behavior. Another common type
  of focal seizure includes the uncontrolled
  movement of an arm or leg. These seizures
  usually last from seconds to minutes and a
  complete recovery occurs within the same time
  period.
• A generalized seizure occurs when the electrical
  activity spreads throughout the brain. When this
  occurs, the patient loses consciousness, falls to
  the ground and may have uncontrolled movements
  of the body, arms and legs. Control over the
  bowel and bladder may be lost. The seizure can go
  on for several minutes, then it may take several
  hours for the person to awaken.
